Belgrade, 17 August 2017 – Apatin Brewery and the Traffic Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia marked the ten-year anniversary of the “When I drink I don’t drive” campaign that has been educating public for a full decade on the importance of responsible consumption and risks of driving under the influence of alcohol. On that account Apatin Brewery donated ten new state-of-the-art alcometers to the Traffic Police Directorate in order to assist in more efficient traffic control.

Traffic police officers performed intensive control of alcohol presence with drivers using new alcometers on that occasion on the Bulevar Milutina Milankovića street.

“In the past two years, according to statistical data, on our roads, every fifth life is sadly lost due to driving under the influence of alcohol, and similar experience is shared with other European countries. This is why the traffic police checks the presence of alcohol with drivers every day, removes from traffic the ones that drive under the influence of alcohol and retains drivers until they are sober that are very or completely drunk or that refuse to take the alcotest. On average, approximately 50,000 drivers are removed from traffic within a year, with approximately 10,000 held for sobering. I would like to use this opportunity to thank Apatin Brewery for the donation of alcometers that help us be more efficient in controlling the drivers and remove them from traffic if they are under the influence of alcohol, thus contributing to safer traffic” stated Boban Milinović, Deputy Chief of the Traffic Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.

Records show that a number of drivers driving under the influence of alcohol is reduced year after year.

“During the last ten years we visited many cities in Serbia, many festivals, held a number of lectures, created different educational content, all for the purpose of raising awareness of all participants in traffic on the importance of responsible alcohol consumption. Our advice, especially to young people has always been – if you had a drink, call a taxi, call a friend, wait for a bus or take a walk. I believe we saved many lives through that kind of prevention and that we will continue to do so in the future” said Vladimir Novaković, General Manager of the Apatin Brewery.
